It isn't a far departure from the car it replaces aesthetically, it's on the same plat form now as the ATS. So it should be a smaller car, think it's also 200 LBs lighter. The interior is a little nicer than the car it replaces as well, all from an aesthetic stand point. I liked the 5th gen a lot when it was in the development phase, but the final car I wasn't a fan. When I bought my C6 I was looking between that and ordering a 5.0, the 5th gen wasn't even a consideration. Not a bad car, but to me the 5.0 was the closer replacement to the 4th gen which was a car I liked a lot, solid axle and a bang for the buck car.
